Early Years The Turn The Work IRONMAN Today Future Thinking

My earliest memory is being four years old — my dad walking out, and my mum on the floor crying. I didn’t understand it then, but it shaped everything that followed. By my teens I was deep in the party scene — weed, ecstasy, cocaine — and it ran on for over two decades. Destructive patterns that nearly cost me the people I loved most. For most of it, I was the problem. And I knew it.

By the end I was the instigator of my own destruction — the downfall in my own story. Still deep in the party scene, terrible with money, and paying for it everywhere else: addiction, paranoia, mental-health struggles, low self-esteem, no energy. It all built to a pretty miserable place, and I nearly lost everything. That was the moment I finally drew a line — and decided I’d build my way out, one step at a time.

No system was built for a man like me — turned away by rehab, missed by the standard playbook. So I built my own way out: reading, training, and a systematic rebuild of who I was underneath the chaos. Step by step, that became the HEX Method — a six-step framework that rebuilds not the routine, but the man underneath it.

I decided to test the framework on one of the toughest events on the planet — mentally and physically. A few tweaks to the system, and I got the result I was after. Now I can pass that learning on, and help other men achieve whatever they set out to. IRONMAN was my journey — the HEX Method can help you with yours. However big or small the goal, the lessons are there.

Today I have a daughter and a young son. I looked at them and made a promise: I will never be the reason someone cries on the floor. That promise became PROGRESS HEX — the framework, The Hex Effect podcast, and Progress Talks. I built my way out. Now I help other men do the same.

PROGRESS HEX is a transformation for men who want the best for themselves. My whole outlook now is purpose- and value-driven — pointed at one thing: getting real results for men who’ve been struggling, or feel a bit lost on their next steps. The future is helping them build the way out, the way I did.

HEX Method Explained

The HEX Method is the steel thread that runs through everything we are, and everything we aim to achieve at PROGRESS HEX. The journey is never a straight road or a bump-free ride — but with the framework on your side, you’ll make good choices, and learn faster from the bad ones.

The HEX Method — six stages

A dream without a goal is a fantasy. Take inspiration from those around you — be open to new ideas, new sounds, new conversations — and the inspiration will come naturally.

There are no half measures with commitment. Commitment is your promise to the world that you will achieve what you set out to achieve. You cannot 50% commit — you have to go all in on the challenge to make it work. Anything less leads to breakdowns in process and ambition.

A robust plan — one that doesn’t always run in a straight line — is the key here. Your plan may deviate and change, you may have a change of direction, but you must know your plan and your destination. Otherwise you can spend months, even years, climbing the wrong mountain. Planning is confirming you know exactly what you want; you may still need to work out how to get there, but at least you know the destination.

Consistency = Commitment × Time

Showing up for every session, on time, every time. Doing what you set out to do on a regular, consistent basis. Being the person who shows up once they’ve committed — come rain or shine, you’re the one who gets it done. You rarely miss appointments, timetables are set, and plans are carried out to the letter.

Discipline = Consistency × Time

Know that hurdles will present themselves and obstacles will appear. Discipline is what keeps you on the path — sticking to the course until you complete what you set out to complete. Certain goals aren’t date-specific; you know within yourself when the time is right to say, ‘I’ve completed this step.’ You’ve given yourself every opportunity to make that happen because you chose to keep showing up, even when everything was against you. You use despondency as fuel to push through adversity. You have the mindset and the strength to know that, to quantify your results, you must honour your commitment daily — a burning desire to keep going, to never quit until the job is done and the results are reached.

Luck = Opportunity × Time

Putting yourself into good situations and taking the opportunities that come your way — not stuck inside your own head, browsing endless nonsense about cats in party hats. Seeing opportunities for what they are and taking chances with both hands. Not letting the world aimlessly pass you by in a torrent of screens. Saying yes to the right things, and no to the ones that don’t help you progress on your current path. Getting yourself into good positions with the right people — the ones there to propel you towards your goals and dreams.
